Fiona Drummond & Friend
I love the addition of the little flowers and the little leaf, it's absolutely charming. I think that it sits really well, it's very comfortable, it feels very accomplished and I think that's very clever doing that. I think with all these designs you have done for this module, I think they're marketable, I think you're going to make money.
Oh, it looks lovely! Wow! The prints look absolutely beautiful. In the frames and that fabric. Yeah, very sharp and clear, and to the point, I think. I think your work is absolutely stunning. I hope you don't mind but I've showed a friend of mine. But they really were like, wow, it's absolutely beautiful, she said, wow, this work is going to sell. I said, she's fantastic artist and a fantastic student, and they agreed. It's me as an artist myself that thinks your work is great and I did my masters with her, so she's an artist as well. I just think your work is absolutely stunning, I just said to her, watch this space.
Bruce Chivers – This is an excellent body of work that displays both technical skill and a highly developed sense of pattern creation. You have invented delightful combinations utilizing a beautiful, subtle, colour palette showing an awareness of space that provides an industry ready product. Congratulations.
Sam Doyle – These are beautiful prints, with beautiful sophisticated and subtle colours. The neutral colour palette makes it very universal for use, either by age, gender or for different interiors. It would also work really well for a children's room. It works beautifully hung as the print is the perfect size for a hung repeat print... The animals are small enough that you can still see detail when the fabric is gathered, but big enough to stand out. The use of floral inside the animals is also very Scandi/ folk/ nature on-trend. The framed prints work beautifully too as artworks.
Katie Hawker – Emily showed professionalism, organizational skills and strong teamwork in developing the exhibition at Positive Light Projects. She also engaged with curatorial decisions and consideration of how her piece worked within the entire show. Her work was presented well with her prints showcasing the individual woodland animal designs in frames and large printed fabric flowing from the ceiling to display all designs together. This allowed the viewer to imagine the various applications and purposes for Emily’s designs. The designs themselves were heavily influenced by Scandinavian folk art aesthetic, combined with familiar woodland characters. This made for beautiful, clean designs that were full of warm nostalgia and mystical narrative, appealing to children and parents, a perfect balance for her core market.
Reviewing my feedback
I am surprised, but very happy at the nice feedback I received from my tutors. I'm not very good at receiving good feedback, and need to be more confident in my artwork. This feedback shows me that I can achieve what I want to achieve. There wasn't any negative feedback to try to improve, but I have things I want to improve for myself.
I agree with the comments about the collection working for both children and adults, and I had aimed to create a fairly neutral colour palette, although I do plan to try out different background colours in the future, and possibly create a brighter version of them as well. I hope that I can continue this collection onto products and sell them successfully.
