So in February I went for a trip to Paignton Zoo with the illustration students and Katie Hawker. We did some sketching exercises to get us warmed up and just basic shape exercises and different amounts of time that it took to sketch them.
As we were going around on pencil and paper, I also used my iPad to sketch on as well.
It wasn't the best day weather wise, it was a bit rainy and grey so all the animals were hiding so we didn't get any great shots of the animals that I wanted to do but I did get some good shots of rhinos which I was drawing. It was very good for inspiration, looking at forms and building animals from shapes and then building that up on top.
I found seeing the animals in person very inspiring, and took lots of pictures to draw and paint from reference photos.
I also went to the aquarium in Bournemouth and used photographs as reference for characters for my children's storybook for my final project.
