Why are artists worried about the growth of Artificial Intelligence?
Artists, like many professionals, are worried about the growth of AI. A primary concern is the potential for AI to perform tasks traditionally performed by artists. AI can generate music, visual art, and literature, which leads to worries about job displacement and the devaluation of human creativity and craftsmanship.
AI generated art lacks the depth, emotional character, and authenticity that human-created art often possesses. Artists generally view their creative process as a deeply personal and emotional form of self-expression. They worry that the use of AI in art diminishes the role of human creativity and the emotional connection between the artist and the audience.
Artists worry that AI may lead to a uniformity of artistic expression and a loss of originality and unique perspectives that make art meaningful. Art plays a significant role in reflecting and shaping culture. Artists are concerned that if AI takes over the art roles, it may not properly understand and reflect the complexities of human experiences and cultures.
There is also a concern that if artists become reliant on AI tools and technology, they may lose the traditional artistic skills and techniques.
Another concern is that the rise of AI generated art could impact the economic market for original artwork. If AI art becomes more bigger and more affordable, it may be difficult for human artists to make a living from their work.
Artists worry about copyright and the unauthorised use and exploitation of their own works, and how this will be controlled. Intellectual property rights are much more complex when AI is involved in creating art.
It is important to note that not all artists view AI as a threat, some see it as a tool that can enhance their creative process or inspire new forms of artistic expression. The relationship between AI and the arts is a complex and evolving one, highlighting the need for discussions about the ethical, economic, and cultural implications of AI in the creative world.
Response
I don’t believe that AI is going to take over the world, as the extremes will have you believe. My personal opinion is that yes, it is going to affect how our society functions, but I believe that humans will work together with Artificial intelligence to create new ways to work. I think that we will learn to use it as a tool to help us.
